Presented by the Fourth Street merchants and KCSM/Jazz 91, the 14th Annual Jazz on Fourth street festival took place Sunday, May 17, from noon – 5:00pm in Berkeley, CA on Fourth Street between Hearst and Virginia.

This free outdoor music festival, benefiting the jazz programs at Berkeley High School, featured the long-time Director of the Berkeley High Jazz program, Charles Hamilton with an Alumni Band featuring many Berkeley High School grads. Also performing was Johnny Nitro & The Doorslammers as well as Tito Y Su Son de Cuba, plus two Berkeley High School Combos and the grand finale with the award-winning Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble.

During the festival, a raffle was held to benefit the Berkeley High School Jazz. Raffle prizes were donated by Fourth Street merchants including the Grand Prize of a $1,000 gift certificate from Pave Fine Jewelry on Fourth Street.

The Berkeley High Jazz Program, once home to Joshua Redman, Dave Ellis, Ambrose Akinmusire, Peter Apfelbaum, Michael Wolff, Benny Green and many others, is a national model of instrumental education. The proceeds from this event will help the school continue the jazz programs and send the ensemble to the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland this summer. Jazz On Fourth has collected over $117,000 for the music program since the Festival’s inception. Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, Parent Coordinator Jenny Bloomfield says, "Without the wonderful help of the merchants on Fourth Street and Abrams/Millikan, people all over the world would not have the joy of hearing these accomplished musicians. We truly appreciate the help of the community in giving to the Jazz Program.” The street and plaza were filled with Fourth Street merchants offering unique menus, interactive displays and children’s activities including face painting.
